purple embroidered bohemian gypsy shorts
These shorts were made (by me) from vintage Indian sari. SO CUTE and so flattering! The fabric is 100 percent cotton/silk blend that has been hand embroidered and covered with tiny brass mirrors by Banjara Gypsies (see below for an explanation!). The fabric is slightly sheer.
These shorts are a size small to medium. The waist stretches from 22 inches up to around 30 inches. The outseam is 16 inches from waist to hem, and hangs to the lower thigh. The inseam is 6 inches. Waist to crotch is 10 inches.
The fabric has been decorated in the Phulkari style by Banjara gypsies in the Punjab region of northern India, right near the Pakistani border. The word Phulkari means "flower craft." Women create these things to be worn by themselves or loved ones, and they are never offered in the marketplace. On very special occasions and ceremonies, full-body phulkaris are worn, and they are called Baghs, which means "garden." How awesome is that?
I purchase these vintage textiles from a single mother in Delhi. She says she wants to share her country's beautiful fabrics with the world. I trust her implicitly. She goes out on trips to small villages in remote parts of India and buys saris and other fabrics from the women there. In this way, she is contributing to the village economy as well as supporting herself and her son. I LOVE being part of this network.
This piece may have signs of wear such as small, light stains or tiny holes. I do my very best to insure that each piece is as close to perfect as possible, but please remember that they came from saris that have been worn and loved by one or more women. If there is something that is unacceptable to you, that I missed, I will gladly take the piece back.
DON'T WORRY! Miri accepts returns (for a full refund) for any reason.
