About the ingredients:
Sweet almond (Prunus amygdalus dulcis) oil is a good choice for any skin type. This oil is rich in minerals, vitamins, and protein. It's high in oleic, linoleic, and other fatty acids. This oil is used to treat dry skin or chapped skin and relieve itching, soreness, and inflammation.
Uganda Gold is the finest Bourbon-style vanilla bean available on the market today, with a significantly higher vanillin content (the good, sweet stuff) than any bean that has been tested. Vanilla has been used historically as an aphrodisiac, antidepressant, and to calm anxiety. It imparts a sense of comfort. Plus it smells DIVINE.
From the vanilla supplier's website: Chemiphar Laboratory, Kampala, Uganda (November 2006) reported vanillin content of long whole Uganda vanilla beans at 2.5%. [A vanillin content of 2.0% for Madagascar Bourbon beans is generally considered outstanding in the trade.] Chemiphar report available on request.
According to UCLA's Medicinal Spices Exhibit: Vanillin is in the class of vanilloids, that includes – surprisingly – capsaicin (8-methy-N-vanillyl noneamide) from chile pepper and eugenol from cloves, cinnamon and other spices, and zingerone from ginger. The vanilloid receptors of the central and peripheral nervous systems bind with these compounds, resulting in different sensory effects. Thus, capsaicin can cause a burning sensation while eugenol results in mild anesthesia; vanillin itself is neutral.
Historical View “Vanilla is an aromatic stimulant, with a tendency towards the nervous system. It has also been regarded as an aphrodisiac. It has been employed as a remedy in hysteria, low fevers, impotency, etc. But its use as a medicine is obsolete in this country, although still sometimes employed on the Continent and elsewhere.”
Clementine: From Naturopathica Holistic Health: Clementine is the citrus variety of Mandarin Orange. The fragrant oil is usually steam distilled from the peel. The scent is slightly sweeter than Tangerine with mild floral undertones. It is known for its calming and relaxing aromatherapeutic properties and may be helpful in relieving anxiety.
The Tangerine is a variety of the Mandarin Orange (Citrus Reticulata). The essential oil which is produced from the peel has an intense, sweet, fresh scent characteristic of citrus fruit. In addition, it has stimulating, toning, antiseptic and astringent properties.
NOTE: Although this is a mild oil, you may want to avoid this if you have very sensitive skin. Citrus oils have been known to make some skin more vulnerable to the sun. Please use caution in this case.
